I highly recommend the movie An Inconvenient Truth. The science is accurate and the presentation is very clear. Our world is what we make it to be in our actions. Even when action is inaction, the world will change to match our lifestyle. It's really is up to each and every person to make a difference. We do matter. Anyways great movie, one of the best I have seen in years. The message is one of hope, if we just act simply. It doesnt take anything hard to make a difference in the current ecological situation. But no action (in this case means the same action which is creating the problem) does mean no future for our children. To truly follow no-action by living simply. As a Taoist the consumer style of always wanting bigger/more is baffling, since such activities actually reduce a person to be smaller. Yet perhaps thats why. As it gets more painful to live in a culture that creates pain, perhaps always buying more helps to deaden the pain. Yet such a life style leads to frost bite or perhaps sunburn of the soul either way, we create the climate we live in. Its truly a choice we each make, and we each make a difference. You are not powerless when taking the time to be yourself and not a consumer expression of living.</div>

We all know that the urban life is very busy, the time goes by faster and we’re all stressed and tired. We never have enough time to do all the things we want, or to spend time with family, friends or loved ones and it’s frustrating. If you are much stressed all the time, we recommend you to try <a href="http://www.adrianrusin.com/" target="_blank">hypnotherapy Abu Dhabi</a>. Some people feel better when they choose to smoke a cigarette or drink an alcoholic beverage, but these are unhealthy habits that satisfy and cover-up our unhappiness for a short moment. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>What if you could eliminate the unhelpful programming leading you to feel unhappy?</li>
<li>What if you could get rid of the thoughts that are bogging you down?</li>
<li>What if you could find out what really brings you happiness?</li>
<li>What if you could discover your purpose, and learn how to pursue it?</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Many of the most influential artists, athletes, musicians, writers and business leaders of our world have had their “aha” moment when they were in a trance state of mind. These people report tapping into a source beyond the ordinary state reality we perceive ourselves to exist in. Moments of great invention and discovery have been made in an enhanced, relaxed and extremely focused state of mind, scientifically known as hypnosis.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
While in hypnosis, people connect with their higher self. Answers to problems will automatically appear in their mind from the wisdom of the collective conscious. People will find strength, courage, and happiness while flashes of expanded awareness are enticing the creative flow. Hypnotherapy can help you in freeing your negative beliefs, fears and stresses, so you can open your heart and mind to reaching your highest potential, which by the way is your birthright. To experience joy, creativeness, happiness and health can be an expectation instead of a hope.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I recommend you try hypnotherapy as a way to find solutions to your problems, finally find joy in your life and discover what is holding you back. Release the struggle in life and open yourself to the potential of a wonderful experience. Choose transformation, choose wisdom, and choose enlightenment. Choose hypnotherapy Abu Dhabi as your road to get there! Also, surround yourself with loved ones, try to spend time with yourself, laugh often, hug more, move more and eat your veggies and fruits! Your soul and mind need all these!</div>

Words change meaning faster than rabbits hatching. Say the words "apple picking" to me and I know what you mean. You go out in an orchard and pull apples off a tree, right? Wrong. "Apple Picking" is the new term for thieving critters out to steal your hand held devices, iPhones, iPads and other such devices. The article is primarily a warning for Portland's transit system riders but it applies to all of us I think. If your smart phone isn't in use, keep it out of sight. When listening to music, tuck it away in a pocket (and think about replacing Apple's telltale white ear buds). Watch for people casing riders for electronic devices. Be vigilant when a bus or train is coming to a stop and the doors are about to open. Sit or stand in an area visible to others. If your device is snatched, report it stolen (don't chase the thief).</div>

Getting and staying out of debt it’s not an easy thing. But you can learn how to stop incurring new debt and, why not, change your life forever. Making the decision to get out of debt is one thing. We can say that it’s a real. First, you have to stop making your debt bigger. This means that you will have to limit yourself to one credit card only. You should also cut up from the list your favorite cards such as gas cards or department store cards. Your credit card should be used only for things that you know you are able to pay off in a short period of time. The main idea is to get your spending fully under control. You can also write a spending list because this can help you later getting out of debt. Certainly, you will meet people that consider this very annoying. Maybe it’s true. But we have a golden rule: don’t spend money you don’t have. We say this because your debt actually means more huge purchases. You can start with knowing what you are spending your money on. Each coin, no matter how small, should be written on a list every month. Have you bought a book, a necklace or a cigarette lighter? Write it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtEV8NHuNqXeARJU83e7IoGZhTQjsgn00vMw6yprB9jErCS86Gm44RVbKiE4hNB7GYiNBiDCHdIb68dzDppmpLPZk4-z-KKTy9mOBJ3xVmr1oY4OBX0dmW9aZfbCpKrosyEAiNEJ0ycEoY/s1600/Debt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Debts" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtEV8NHuNqXeARJU83e7IoGZhTQjsgn00vMw6yprB9jErCS86Gm44RVbKiE4hNB7GYiNBiDCHdIb68dzDppmpLPZk4-z-KKTy9mOBJ3xVmr1oY4OBX0dmW9aZfbCpKrosyEAiNEJ0ycEoY/s1600/Debt.jpg" title="Debt" /></a></div>
It’s also useful to categorize your spendings. You can put your spendings in groups like: "Must have", "should have" or "like to have". In "must have" you can include things that are compulsory for a good quality of life such as: clothes, rent, food, medicine."Should have" includes the things you need and enhance your life, but you can live without them for a while like theatre tickets."Like to have" includes things that you don’t need but improve your life such as: dialy coffee with friends or a weekly trip with your family. Making a budget can also help. How much money do you monthly spend on each category? This can help you to be able to see which are the areas that let you to cut back. Or, why not, to see the areas where you can increase your spending. Gathering your bills may also be helpful. Why? Because this is the way to see which are the money that are not really yours. Writing down all the pertinent facts, including the name of the creditor, your minimum monthly payment or your total balance. It's a good idea to set a priority between the debts to which you are going to divide this extra money. Do you have past debts and the creditors are beginning to be a nightmare for you? Consider these top priorities.<br />
<br />
It is also useful for you to figure out your spendings and what debs you owe. This can help you. After that, the secret is to keep it up. But the best advice is to continue to pay off each debt that is in your priority list. Perhaps your family or friends could help you. Who else can give you love and trust and a hug during bad times like they do? We do hope that you are not the black sheep of the family. They may even accept a late payment. A written agreement is the best if you want to keep the things simple without messing any relationship. If possible, see if you can pick up some extra hours at work. Yes, even there is no fun and you'll miss the time spent with your family and you'll have no free time, it is temporary. When you’ll be out of debt, you will forget about extra hours. Until then, work any additional hours as you can get and save all the extra money you earn. Take on a second job. It doesn't have to be high-paying. You can earn money by delivering pizzas, or you can work in a fast-food restaurant, or you can sort packages at some delivery company can add up to quite a bit when it is all put into your debt ladder. You’re your pillow will miss you and your family and personal life will be almost forgot-temporarily!<br />
<br />
But there’s a period in your life when you can sacrifice your free time. Don't forget this is only to get yourself out of debt. Once you are debt free, you will feel very proud of you. Your marriage and your social life can also be a victim. Because after work you may feel without anergy for something else. Working so hard to bring in extra money will be very difficult, but you should remember that this is a good way if you want to be debt free and forget about financial stress. Of course it will be difficult, and will be useful to talk about it with the people you care about. Don't forget that this list is just a few ideas to get you started. Use your own creativity might provide even more opportunities to bring in some extra money. Another great secret is "don’t give up". Why? Because, it’s not easy to get out of debt in a day or to fix the problems in a second. Quick fixes don’t last but you can learn how to manage your money and in the same time, bring a great peace into your life. This will let you to spend your energy on funnier or better things. What does "Dog Rescue" mean to you? I ask this because I get some of the strangest comments and questions from people. I always answer them and I try really hard not to come off snotty or rude but sometimes I am sure I do. I know growing up you are taught there are no stupid questions but you know what sometimes I think there are. It seems whenever I have puppies I get the same questions. What was the dad? It always says in the petfinder/adopt a pet posting if we know who the dad was or not. Sometimes I feel like asking "can you read? it says in the listing the mom was a stray and no one knew she was pregnant. How big will they get? ok that one I can somewhat understand but what I don't understand is when this is followed by I don't want a dog over XX pounds. My response is usually "with a rescue puppy not knowing the dad it is probably best that you get a full grown dog." And of course they always email back but I want a puppy". Will the dog have health issues when it gets older? I don't know let me check my magical crystal ball! UGH! Oh my favorite question is "Will you take less for the dog then what you are asking?" OMG I am not e-bay or a flea market... OK so with that question I do get a little rude. I usually list all the expenses of what we have into the dog. I say nothing else just list what we have spent on the dog thus far. It is usually more then the adoption fee.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Does the dog shed? Why? Do you know why someone got rid of him or her? "Well the dog was a stray at the shelter whose owners never came looking for him but yes I know the exact reason not!".</li>
<li>Then the weird statements I get from people: "I don't want a dog that is already fixed because I want my vet to do it". </li>
<li>"You are getting the puppy fixed at 8 weeks is that safe." No it isn't safe but I thought I would give it a try and see what happens.</li>
<li>"I really really like this dog but he is too skinny. I don't want to adopt a skinny dog".</li>
<li>"I don't want a dog that will bark".</li>
<li>"I don't think I should have to pay for a rescue dog" you are correct, I work a full time job trying support my family and volunteer all my free time so you can have a fully vetted, housebroken dog for free!</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
My favorite all time comment that was made but not to me but one of my rescue friends... let me set the stage for the comment real quick. My rescue friend had a litter of puppies, they were all pretty much identical looking very hard to tell apart. So, instead of having people pre pick she wait till they were all fixed and then had people come over as she approved their applications and pick up and take home a puppy. I forget exactly how many puppies she had but regardless she had left two messages for this one family. They finally called her back by that time there was only one puppy left. When the family found out that all the puppies but one were adopted this is what they said "Well what is wrong with this puppy that no picked it? We don't want the last puppy because something must be wrong with it". My friend was so shocked she said OK and hung up. LOL! Any other rescue folks out there are more then welcome to make comments on this post about the silly things people have said or asked you. We can all use a good laugh and it helps to know we aren't alone in this lonely volunteer work we do!</div>

I've got a bunch of pieces to post today! Four to be exact! First up is a poster for this weeks upcoming Valentine's Day themed movie night at the Sidebar, presented, as always, by Cannibal Impalement Records. The movies being shown this time around are Poultrygeist and Valentine's Day, with an intermission by Thee Lexington Arrows! This is my favorite poster I've done for these guys, and probably one of my favorite posters I've done period. Next up is my piece for Zac Gorman's forthcoming Final Fantasy 9 fan-art zine! I chose to draw Freya (one of my favorite characters) stabbing a Malboro (one of my favorite monsters) right in his ugly-ass face! Next up is another little comic I did for Benn Ray of <a href="http://mtgbestcards.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Magic the Gathering best cards blog</a> "Said What?" comic strip for Baltimore's B Magazine. And finally, is a drawing of Death Race's Frankenstein beating the tar out of Machine Gun Joe Viterbo (Sylvester Stallone). This was a drawing that I did for fun, for the same thing I did that drawing of Jason Voorhees for. I'll have some more work coming your way soon, so check back later!</div>

There are 88 counties in Ohio with each one having at least one dogs kill shelter. Some counties have more then one! OBW has taken dogs from about 90% of the counties. It is hard trying to balance all the requests... 88 counties with dogs in need, 88 counties emailing asking me to take a dog or 2 or 3 or 5, 100's of faces are emailed to me every week. It is not easy trying to decide who you can help and who you can't. Especially when you know that by saying no you just killed a dog. It is even harder when you walk into the shelter knowing you can only take 1 or 2 and the dog warden is walking behind you telling you "this one is scheduled to die today, and that one tomorrow". Making deals with the dog warden "if I take 3 will you give him another week". "What if I promise to come get him next week?". Then scrambling to find a place to put him and you think a week is enough time but it isn't enough time. Especially when adoptions are down and volunteers are limited and foster homes are on breaks. And you think to yourself, when do I get a break? To me a break is a weekend away.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img alt="Ohio bike week" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk0iml-4hI9yOjDdK87bIPpzQcgJiXHrUg5YGr9KBn1f6jNGKj9OO7X6v7ozN0Yxwci8_bmjmCI6YZVUZbLj3mHiwnZGkavM-MqirH_6lTIdPNvf4sK5QA1CMF4R0pNXEHeNjyPJIwbPZO/s1600/Ohio+bike+week.jpg" title="Ohio bike week" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Balancing family, work and dog rescue while trying not let the stress and pressure of making life and death decisions get to you. Knowing that the number that just came up on your phone is the dog warden but you can't answer because you are in a meeting at work. You know that you not answering probably means a dog will loose their life because you know that as soon as you call back the warden will say to you "oh you didn't answer and no one would take the dog so we put him to sleep". Trying to make sure that your friends, your family and your wife know that you do love them and that you are there for them if they need you but yet the dogs are always pulling you in 100 directions at the same time. Spending finally a nice dinner with your wife but your phone rings and it is an emergency situation with a dog in need... what do you do? Help the dog and risk making your wife mad again? Or say you can't help and the dog will die. Balance. Dog rescue is all about balance... taking the most urgent dogs and praying that the other pound that is full will hold off putting anyone down just a few days longer because maybe just maybe you will be able to figure out something in a few days.</div>

Okay, first I write this stupid thing: is there a firefox plugin, or config, to block BlogAds? Because that fucking crap keeps crashing my browser. Relentlessly. Then, and not before then, of course, I think to myself: how could I be so stoopid? Behold, the power of teh Googulz! And then what should I see in the no.3 spot of the Google keyword search “block blogads”? You damn right: This - News takes money. People who block Blogads are working against the blogs they support. Because that is the money which pays for the news. Just keeping up this site requires both contributions and ads. I’m not raising money until after the holidays. Sure, that’s a bit longer than the quarterly cycle I’d like to keep, but I rather any money now go to things like phone cards for Walter Reed. I can wait, I’m not going to starve, my computers work, and I can buy Christmas gifts. I also know people may well be broke after the holidays. But I can take that risk. But that cushion only exists because of blogads. That’s what paid for Thanksgiving dinner and the silly PDA version of Madden 2013 I impulse bought.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilTmFSPWUH0ZdGpsMgsVTPos0AbwgxMm-Jjh2Yoc7Ipyr4SNFmXO62BYTF_um9J5HhmtT_-5DzkV3iIyWX74p-fYd6tDUPd9QsyXewe2afUVIfdzGVI70vxJEnwSwn9Q_BKW8A_MRS1VM3/s1600/logo.png" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I’ll talk about transition issues later, but for now, I think what makes blogs viable is that people do support them, not only emotionally, but financially. Instead of selling out, we’re supporting what we believe in. And yes, I support blogs with cash as well. Why? Because things are not free. For too long, people have accepted volunteer work and amateurism as “grassroots” work. Well, we need to build an infratructure of sites which represents our beliefs. Does anyone think the Nation or New Republic is the best that we can produce? Or there is no need for new voices? Well, nothing is free. when you have the power to smack some dumb cracker like me upside the head from beyond the grave - then goddamn. You are a giant. Yet another reason the loss of this great man diminished us all. What the hell. If all it means is restarting firefox once in a damn while and losing 30 seconds of online time - that’s not much of a sacrifice, right? Respect to everyone at <a href="http://www.news-bite.com/" target="_blank">Group News Bite</a>, and have a great weekend.</div>

Warning: this post contains X-rated language. Late to the debate, but: WTF is it with all this “I don’t believe in evolution”? Or these polls that say “do you believe in evolution”? Come on all you jugheads and crackers. Let’s go back to kindergarten for a moment: the theory of evolution is not like santa claus, the easter bunny, or even like macrobiotics or acupuncture. It is not something one believes in or disbelieves in. It is something that one either observes based on an analysis of available evidence, or does not observe based on a lack of available evidence. Like any scientific theory, it is a model constructed from inferences. It doesn’t have one red fucking thing to do with “belief”. My country, my country. Overrun with jugheads, crackers, circus geeks biting the heads off of chickens, carnival fatsos, white trash sisterfuckers in doublewides chawin’ in their overalls. That is what you are: in love with your ignorance. Crack open a fucking book. Argue with and about the inferential theoretical model. But don’t say the word “belief”. Ghee mother of Mary I am going through so much change at the moment, I can hardly contain myself. Contain myself from what would be the valid question to ask. I will let you guys know when I see it. I edited the first draft of my Novel, some scary shize in there. I freak myself out, when I get to the gory bits I actually stop and say did I write that... awesome stuff... Then decided to digest my poetry and my short stories, will putt the edited versions on my blog so that I can get some feedback. I sure do need it. Enough talk about being a writer, the day is now. Then some random thing that has bothered me for ages now. The road that leads me to hell... some of us call it work... is a shelter that a street guy made for himself. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

He even made wind chimes from cardboard that he has erected between two trees. His own outside mansion, now what tickles me pink is that every single morning I pass him and he sits writing something in a book. I have contemplated stopping and asking him for a peek. My fear that he might be insane and hack me to death, is the typical stereotype behaviour one shall expect from a office suite that keeps me away. Yes boohooo cry me a river, that's what I have become. Bow head in shame! So who think they know what he is writing? I am working on the boring suite stereotype pain in the lower butt area I have become. I got another <a href="http://www.saloanetatuaje.ro/" target="_blank">tattoo</a>! Yay!</div>

There are certain moments which are yours. Even if you don’t remember them perfectly they are a part of you which can never be taken away. Some people make it their life’s work to set the record straight on various things about which lies are told, and i can’t fault those people. However, in my own case, it just strikes me as a waste of time. There are people who want to promulgate their own version of events, and i see no profit in making an issue of it. It kind of reinforces my belief that some things are better left in the past. But i would be dishonest, and why bother being dishonest here, of all places? If I said it didn’t affect me. Sure it affects me. Something that I started years ago is being credited to others with no mention of me, and there is a certain annoyance in that. But it’s no different than the very war which time itself has waged on me, making me older, trying to erase my existence. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijIk4rPlWlx1LoXrTBfjWjJY1jY0urYilAxiQ0lpP9CCYtkI8KCJ2X4lUCtR_yZ5WSh3dAyhx-oofKnlS5ZR_HE4rFYc-ZPOl4fMe8qqhUClCDEE5cu25vbgaQyM2ztuRyrxfMFjmarfdi/s1600/Beauitful-life-moments.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijIk4rPlWlx1LoXrTBfjWjJY1jY0urYilAxiQ0lpP9CCYtkI8KCJ2X4lUCtR_yZ5WSh3dAyhx-oofKnlS5ZR_HE4rFYc-ZPOl4fMe8qqhUClCDEE5cu25vbgaQyM2ztuRyrxfMFjmarfdi/s1600/Beauitful-life-moments.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We will all be erased, eventually. Erased and more than likely forgotten. People will remember what they wish to. I feel overwhelmingly the imperative to keep my gaze in the middle distance. Anything else just feels like death. Some people, though, have put off getting a life way past the point of no return. God bless their pointy little heads, I’m sure that happiness and good fortune await them. I wish nothing but enjoyment and peace upon them, in their deluded and fictional little worlds. But it’s sad, in a way, that their only way to run from the Grim Reaper is to try to deny things that might make them uncomfortable. I don’t know about anybody else, but that sort of thing has never worked for me. heaven knows i’ve tried it. Those “people who care” have spoken in a public place, so I feel just the tiny amount of vindication I need to get on with my life from now and for the rest of the day. Thank you, people!</div>

Secondly - show relevant work. By relevant I mean: It should be work that would interest the art director in question; Should relate back to your portfolio. Remember, you're trying to remind the AD who you are, what you do, and why you should be remembered. And for the gang back at the office, that didn't get to meet you face to face, you are trying to capture their attention with one quick glance. Finally, remember this vital fact - you are just one of a few hundred folks that the art director has met during the event. Please do not be offended if the art director turns down the large print, or hardbound coffee table size book of your artwork. Personally, I take as few bags, and as small as possible on my trips. It helps me deal with my sprints between planes when doing the transfers. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I'd like to thank all the folks that were very understanding about that fact this year, and I'd like to thank the few folks that were kind enough to mail me their samples/prints. It was greatly appreciated! So which was my favorite leave behind? That would be a really hard call. One of the most effective though was from an artist that had some agency experience at <a href="http://www.greatsem.com/" target="_blank">GreatSem</a> and created a "press release kit". In the kit was a business card, a couple of post cards, a few "tear sheets" and a couple of prints of some recent work. I had no trouble remembering who she was, what kind of work she did, and she got the notice of some folks back at the office. Now here's the hard truth. Just a thought...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If the quality of her work weren't above average and the relevancy of her work on target. Her leave behind would not have had any impact at all. First and foremost you have to hit those two important aspects first. It occurred to me that there is one last piece of advice I can pass on about leave-behinds. This might be the most important piece of advice I can pass along. The most important thing to leave-behind is your attitude and ego. No one says you have to agree with everything, or even anything, that is shared with you during a portfolio review, but if you are interested in working with the person across the table from you - recognize one simple fact. Arguing, being belligerent, shouting obscenities or being a prima dona are not successful ways to endear yourself with an art director. </div>

Through out the year I will get asked a million time about leave-behinds and other assorted promotional items. I just received the question again, and this time I'm just wrapping up the con season and have a nice fresh perspective on the issue. Let me start out with the most important point about self promotion. Have a leave behind. I was floored that on numerous occasions this year when I asked for a business card or some other self-promo piece so that I could remember an artist and share their work with the other AD's back at the office I was told that the artist didn't have anything to share. Seriously? If you want to be forgotten or passed over follow this example if you want a shot at getting some work. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There, that's the easy part. After that bit of advice it gets a lot more complicated. This year I saw everything from standard business cards, custom business cards, post cards, mini portfolios packs, self published comics, self published books, and in one case a custom sketch with contact info ('cause they ran out of cards). Which one worked best? Which form of leave-behind got more notice? Tough to say... Let me tell you how I use leave-behinds. I look at hundreds of portfolios during a typical convention weekend. I use leave-behinds to kick start my brain about who and what I saw during the day/weekend/week. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I also take the pieces back to the office (if I can fit them into my luggage... consider that, please!) to share with the rest of the AD's and show off shiny new distractions. So when you think of how the pieces are going to be used - that might give you a little more insight into what might make for a successful leave-behind. First off - it should highlight your art work. I struggle with names, but show me a piece of artwork and I can often remember an artist. So having a nicely designed business card is wonderful, but if it doesn't show me your artwork - chances are good I'll have no idea who you were, and the folks back at the office will have no idea what you can do unless they check out your site (good luck with that).</div>

The Colorado Springs Gazette has a closer look at the scary Shoot First, Make My Day, or Deadly Force law that was used by a murderer there to get off scot free. When Gary Lee Hill stood on the porch with a loaded rifle, he was afraid the people outside his home would attack him again, the jury in his murder trial was told. That left them no choice, the jury foreman said in an e-mail defending last week's harshly criticized verdict, but to find Hill not guilty of murder under Colorado's Make My Day law. Hill, 24, was found not guilty in a Colorado Springs courtroom December 14 of first-degree murder in the shooting death of John David Knott, 19. Knott was shot in the back while sitting in a car outside Hill's home. The foreman, who asked not to be identified because he feared for his family's safety, said the way the Make My Day law is written made a guilty verdict impossible. All four criteria for the use of deadly force against an intruder were met. Not everyone sees it that way: The legislator who helped write the Make My Day law called the jury's decision a miscarriage of justice, and in the days after the verdict there were calls to rewrite the law to require imminent danger before deadly force is justified. This law was written and sold by the NRA, who proudly brag that it takes the responsibility away from victims to retreat from a violent situation whenever possible. But in doing that, they basically make murder legal. John David Knott was driving away from Gary Hill's house, and no longer presented any kind of threat to him at all. And yet, when Gary Hill shot him and killed him from behind, it was all completely legal according to this law. The verdict brought down a firestorm of criticism. Colorado's Homeowners Protection Act, which allows people in their homes to defend themselves against an intruder with deadly force, was debated on national news programs. "I'm shocked at the verdict on this case" wrote Russ Nickerson of Colorado Springs on an online Gazette forum. "What kind of message are we sending to the people of Colorado Springs?"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7SaIFvDqhW3vcOSLujXs4NpZPJGDI4XpxE7IupvJB_CSOwdP6lXUbLEccdmBS38wjFAw7z8iA_DvGuns9vp0N9nCj3DXapXhvEBMufoB8C43Mq1wFBKGWSJMXo_rVSrc1P5H5HTPTboyL/s1600/Old+rifle.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Trust me say's Bill Major of Colorado Springs on the same forum, this will open the door for assaults and murders by those who will now accept this as an interpretation of the Make My Day law. Bernie Herpin, president of the Pikes Peak Firearms Coalition, said the jury incorrectly used the Homeowner's Protection Act. The Make My Day law only applies if the intruder is in the dwelling. But it doesn't! The NRA has clearly said that they want this law to apply to anywhere a person might be, for any reason. In Florida, they've already passed a law that allows anyone to shoot anyone else whenever they feel threatened. Neighbor letting his dog do his business on your lawn? It's completely legal to shoot him now, because you can simply tell the police that you felt he presented a physical threat. And Knott didn't even present an actual physical threat to Hill at that time just a previous one. According to this law, if you want to shoot someone who beat you up in third grade, go right ahead. They threatened you, didn't they? This law is nonsense. Even the legislators who passed it under the NRA's bidding think it's crazy. A member of the House Judiciary Committee, Republican Richard Decker, R-Fountain said for news bite he hadn't heard from anyone wanting to change the law. If anything, this case strengthened that law said Decker. This guy was outside the house. Republican Morgan Carroll, D-Aurora, said "the jurors probably did the best they could, but we may have handed people a sufficiently ambiguous law." Carroll, who is also on the judiciary committee, said legislators might have to look at adding boundaries of time, proximity and imminence. There's a fine line between self-defense and vigilantism Carroll said. And the Shoot First law goes way, way over it. Mark our words, the NRA has made it a priority in 2006 to put this law in effect in every state in the union. We've already seen it here in Colorado, in Florida, and in Wyoming. Shoot First is a clear license to murder, and it's coming to a state near you.</div>

One of the most frightening themes in science fiction and fantasy is that of mind control, that your mind could be manipulated to make you perform actions against your will. In SF this is usually done with some sort of gadget that is implanted in your body. In fantasy, mind control is performed by the controlling being such as a wizard, vampire or demon by mystical means. Apparently the SF version is already available. It is done by brain chips. In 1970, Jose Manuel Rodrigues Delgado, a professor of physiology at Yale University, pioneered an electronic device that can manipulate the mind by receiving signals from and transmitting them to neurons. At present brain chips are used to treat such conditions as epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, paralysis, blindness and disorders. Delgado, however, was performing experiments that were more dramatic than anything done today.<br />
<br />
He implanted radio-controlled electrode arrays in various animals and even into humans. He showed that he could control subject's minds and bodies with a push of a button. For the most part his work has been forgotten, but he is alive and living in San Diego. Between 1952 and 1970, Delgado implanted electrodes in twenty-five human brains, most of whom<i> </i>with severe physical illness, like schizophrenics and epileptics pacients. He showed that stimulation of parts of the brain could cause a physical reaction. Patients were made to perform such actions as tightening a fist or shaking the head from side to side by applying small electric currents to certain areas of the brain. Delgado also induced such emotions as rage, lust, hilarity and fear. In one of his experiments, he caused a macaque bully in a cage with other <a href="http://www.cartoon-coloring-page.com/monkeys-coloring-pages/" target="_blank">monkeys</a> to be pacified when a lever was pushed. One of the female monkeys learned this and would press the lever whenever the bully tried to molest her.<br />
<br />
One troubling aspect of Delgado's experiments is that they were supported by the Office of Naval Research. Some conspiracy theorists believe that the CIA was involved. Delgado countered any claims of mind control by saying that brain simulation can increase or decrease aggressive behavior, but not direct it at a specific target. Currently many people suffering from certain brain malfunctions have chips implanted in their heads that stimulate certain areas of the brains by wireless communication to the chip. Whether this technology will be expanded to actually control human beings to act according to another person's will is yet to be seen. It is certainly a frightening thought. Most of the information for this post came from an article in the October, 2005 Scientific American entitled "The Forgotten Era of Brain Chips" by John Hogan.</div>

Until recently the nature of the universe seemed pretty clear cut. There were galaxies, which contained stars, planets, other types of objects such as black holes and comets, and a lot of gas and dust. Everything else was simply nothingness. The whole shebang was expanding due to "The Big Bang" which created all that stuff. Oh, there were mysteries, such as what is gravity, what happens to stuff that falls into a black hole and what caused the Big Bang to happen. But as careful measurements were made by astronomers, the numbers did not come out right. Astronomers first talk about the existence of dark matter in the 1930s. Observations showed that it outweighed ordinary matter by factor of six to one.<br />
<br />
Galaxies are embedded in great halos of dark matter. But what was this stuff that had such a great gravitational affect but was undetectable otherwise? Astronomers think that it must consist of particles that hardly interact with ordinary matter at all. Because of this, its exact nature is unknown.With the advent of the science of particle physics, some clues have been found by particle physicists. While investigating what causes radioactive decay, a new force called the "weak nuclear force" was discovered. The hypothetical particles that carry this weak nuclear force should have properties that hint at dark matter. I want to quote a paragraph from the article in Scientific American written by Jonathon Feng and Mark Trodden. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br />
"These hypothetical particles include some collectively known as weakly interacting massive particles. The name arises because the particles interact only by means of the weak nuclear force. Being immune to electromagnetic and magnetic forces that dominate the everyday world, they are totally invisible and have scarcely any direct affect on normal particles. Therefore, the make the perfect candidate for cosmic dark matter." The article goes on to catalog the types of experiments that are being done to prove or disprove this theory. We shall see whether the real nature of dark matter is discovered in the next few years. It appears that physicists and astronomers are working at the problem from many different angles.</div>
